Ingredients

Ingredients

  • 3 milk chocolate bars, chopped (4.4 oz each)
(Lindt Classic Recipe or Guittard Milk Chocolate)

  • 2 cups whole milk

  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream

  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar

  • 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

  • Tiny Pinch of salt, optional

Instructions

Step 1: Warm the Milk, Cream & Sugar

In a medium saucepan over medium-low heat, add the milk, heavy whipping cream, and sugar. Heat gently until steaming, whisking occasionally. Do not boil.

Step 2: Add the Milk Chocolate

Reduce the heat to low and add the chopped milk chocolate bars and a tiny pinch of salt.

Step 3: Whisk Until Smooth & Creamy

Whisk continuously until the chocolate is fully melted and the mixture is glossy, smooth, and rich.

Step 4: Warm & Thicken Slightly

Keep the heat on low and continue whisking for 1–2 minutes, just until the hot chocolate thickens slightly and reaches your desired temperature. Avoid boiling to keep it silky.

Step 5: Finish with Vanilla

Remove the saucepan from the heat and whisk in the vanilla extract.

Step 6: Serve & Garnish

Pour into mugs and top with whipped cream, chocolate shavings, marshmallows, or festive toppings of choice.

Notes

  • Milk chocolate bars: Use high-quality milk chocolate bars for the smoothest, creamiest texture.

  • Milk: Whole milk creates the best balance of richness and drinkability.

  • Heavy whipping cream: Adds a luxurious, café-style finish without making the drink overly thick.

  • Sugar: Just enough to enhance the chocolate flavor. Reduce to 1 tablespoon if your chocolate is very sweet.

  • Salt: Optional, but a tiny pinch deepens the chocolate flavor without tasting salty.

Best Chocolate to Use

For the best results, use pure milk chocolate bars that taste good on their own.

Chocolate bars melt more smoothly than chips, giving this drink its luxurious texture.

Store leftover hot chocolate in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheat gently before serving.
